Moth mullein

A couple weeks ago I found this flower along the roadways. Its common name is moth mullein, and its scientific name is Verbascum blattaria. It is related to the common mullein, but it looks more like a garden flower and less like a weed. It is an introduced species from Eurasia. It may be done blooming by now. I have seen it in several places along the roads, mostly in its yellow version but also in its white version.
It is named moth mullein because someone thought the flowers resembled moths.

I hope you are enjoying the nice weather. It sure beats the heat and humidity that we had on Monday. Unfortunately, the forecast for next week, fair week, is for more weather like Monday, not more weather like today.

Thank you for this post! I've been enjoying these white flowers in one of my flower beds. They were a lovely surprise, and I'm happy to know what they are now.
