Asiatic Dayflower
A couple of weeks ago I noticed this flower at the edge of a woods. I have seen it often in the past and decided to learn what it is. It seems to be an Asiatic Dayflower, which is not a native plant, but an introduced species.

New owners--Strack and Van Til
County Market is under new ownership and is now part of Strack and Van Til. The store was closed on Wednesday as they were making the transition inside. On Thursday they were making the transition outside, replacing the old County Market sign with a new Strack and Van Til sign
When I was there, the sign for the entrance was still on the trailer. It may be up by the time you read this.
They will switch some of the product lines they carry, but I do not know what else this change in ownership means. Do you have any predictions?

lap swimming
The high school pool will be open for lap swimming starting next Tuesday from 6:00 to 7;00 a.m. (That is early morning, not evening.) The cost is $1.00 per session, but you have to prepay $20 and they will keep track of your swims. For more information call 863-8632.
Final Tuesday night farmers' market
The weather is still summer-like, but the calendar says that fall is approaching. The pool is closed, school is in session, Friday night football has returned, and the last of the Tuesday night farmers' markets is now history. There was a good attendance because the Newton-Jasper Community Band played.
If you missed this performance, you can catch them at the Little Cousin Jasper Festival. They are scheduled for Sunday at 12:30.
This year they completed their concert. Last year they had did not.
The court house looked really great--the shadows were just right to highlight the texture of the building. In front of the court house, the Alliance Bank was giving away popcorn. Thanks, Alliance.
There was a decent crowd there, and I talked to several people who I had not seen recently. Plus, I met Little Indiana. It is rather funny that we live less than a mile from each other and have communicated a number of times via the Internet, but had not met face to face before. Even in a little city like Rensselaer, most of the people are strangers to one another.

Final pool day served with pizza
Saturday, August 29th was the final day of the swim season at the LaRue Pool in Brookside Park. The attendance was very good, perhaps because it was the last day, or perhaps because it was a very warm day for the end of August.
Or maybe a lot of people showed up because it was Slice of Pie Pizza Day. Slice of Pie Pizza was giving away free slices of pizza to anyone who came to the pool.
There served a lot of pizzas that were enjoyed by a lot of people.
I enjoyed the pizza. Thanks, Slice of Pie Pizza, for ending the swim season with something special.
