This morning I noticed a new house being built at the elbow of Monroe and Vine. The lots on the north side of Vine right before its western end have been for sale for a year or two. Last summer one of them sold, but I do not think it was this one. The whole area was planted in beans this year, so there were not a lot of plans for construction.
Any new housing construction is news these days because there is so little of it. A week or two ago someone told me that Stark Truss, which is completely dependent on new construction or remodeling, had only 17 employees, down from about 80 at its peak.
(If you look carefully, you should be able to see a combine working in the field. Did you see it initially? If it had not been in the field making noise, my interest would not have been drawn over this way, and I would not have noticed the house.)
