Pulaski Catholic

(I thought it would be interesting to use Sundays to focus on Rensselaer's churches and to see how many Sundays I can go before I ran out of material. Indiana is richly endowed with religious denominations, with influences from North and South, East and West. This is part of that series of posts.)

Francesville has a small Catholic church a bit west of the downtown at 200 West Main Street, the St. Francis Salano Catholic Church. Its architectural style, a southwestern mission style, seems to be unique in this area. The saint whose name is on the church was a 15th century Spaniard who became a missionary to Peru. The parish has a minimal web presence, and if you google "churches Francesville Indiana' the google map that you will get does not show it. That may be because does not have a resident pastor. It and St. Henry's in Medaryville are served by Fr. White, a retired priest at Saint Joseph's College.

St, Francis in Francesville and St. Henry's in Medaryville seem to be the smallest parishes in the diocese of Lafayette. Like the Francesville Catholic Church, St. Henry's has a minimal web presences and is not recognized by google maps. Its physical address is 103 N Jefferson St Medaryville, IN 47957. The Pulaski county report on historical and architectural structures liked this church and gave it an outstanding ranking. (I recall that it gave the Francesville church a notable ranking.) The only St. Henry I found was born in 972 in what is now Germany and became the emperor of what is called the Holy Roman Empire.

(The diocese of Lafayette has a really slow website. Perhaps it was a temporary problem, but as I was writing this, it was so slow as to be unusable.)
