The new store next to the bakery opened last weekend and I missed it. Thursday was the first day that it was open this week, so I made a point of stopping in. The store has an interesting mix of merchandise. There is some furniture and some garden seeds from this spring. With the closure of Hoover House, they have one of the larger selections of furniture in Rensselaer.
Tools and stools.
A collection of floor lamps and some patio furniture. Right now they have a lot of patio furniture in stock.
I did not know what these four white things were. They are portable air conditioners. You can move them from room to room, though you need to put them by a window because they must be vented.
There were also some electric heaters and grills.
I asked where the merchandise came from. The owner attends liquidation auctions around the state and that is the source of much of the merchandise. Almost all of what they have is new and the owner says that he sells it at about 40% of normal retail. Though this is a new store for the owner, he has been selling for some time in Rensselaer, at the Big Top Flea Market in the old Schumacher Building. Recently the new manufacturing plant that was established in the back of the building expanded, taking over some of the space of that had been flea market. The owner said his space was cut, and that prompted the move to this building.
I asked what the name of the store was, and he said that he hadn't found a name yet. I had no suggestions; perhaps you can think of one.
Because of the nature of the business, it will always be changing. I hope he finds some great deals at the liquidation auctions. Where else can you find neat caps like these?
The store is open Thursday through Sunday. On Thursday and Saturday the hours are 10:00 to 4:00, on Friday from 10:00 to 6:00, and on Sunday 12:00 to 4:00
He could name it This and That.
