More on the car show/cruise night
Off to the side of the main exhibit area at the JC Cruiser car show last Saturday, there was area dedicated to fans of the Mercury Capri, a small car originally designed for the Australian market. This was more than a local gathering-- it was the Mid-American Capri Gathering.
They had a small table of trophies. My favorite was the one front left.Below is a close up of what the award was for. These guys and gals may love their cars, but they also have a sense of humor and perspective. After the trophies were awarded and people ate their suppers, it was time to get out and cruise (I.e., drive aimlessly from the north part of Rensselaer to the south part, making a lot of noise along the way.)
The crowds seemed smaller than usual. Certainly many of those attending the demolition derby at the fair grounds would have been lining the highway, sitting on a lawn chair and sipping a cold beverage.
Having seen most of the interesting cars at the car show, I have little to add here, although there was a car that made the road glow blue.
The picture of this truck is blurry, but you can see that it spouted flame from its twin tailpipes.
I also saw people downtown with a pet pig and took a picture, but it was even blurrier than the picture above. I did not see my favorite vehicle from last year, the pick-up truck that had its steering reversed.
