St. Cecilia Catholic Church serves DeMotte. It is not mentioned in the Rensselaer Republican's "Church Services Directory." It does have a simple website with some basic information about services. Like St. Augustine Church in Rensselaer, it is part of the diocese of Lafayette.

Going to church Catholic in Demotte
(I thought it would be interesting to use Sundays to focus on Rensselaer area churches and to see how many Sundays I can go before I run out of material. Indiana is richly endowed with religious denominations, with influences from North and South, East and West. This is part of that series of posts.)

There is a very good history of this church at www.faithfabric.com. The St. Cecilia parish started as a misson of the Sorrowful Mother parish in Wheatfield in 1952. Construction of the first church was begun in 1953 and finished in 1954, and that building is now part of the DeMotte branch of the Jasper Public Library. Construction of the current church building was begun in 1976.
(By the way, there is an outstanding resource for DeMotte history at www.faithfabric.com/tbh/demotte/demotte_history_home.htm.)
