Even more omnivorous trees
While visiting the Holley Savanna preserve and the North Star Cemetery, I noticed some omnivorous trees. On the edge of the cemetery a tree had a steel fence pole through it. It might have grown around it, or it might be that a hole was drilled through it and the pole inserted, but in either case the tree was now firmly holding onto the pole.
Behind the tree in the photo above you can see a smaller tree that is partially wrapped around the pole. The picture below gives a better view.
On the eastern edge of the preserve is a tree eating a no hunting sign. I cannot imagine how that process got started.
