What happened to the ramp?
At the west end of Bicentennial Park, a sign indicates that there is a canoe ramp nearby.
If you look for it, you will not find it. The sign lies. There used to be a canoe ramp here, but no longer.
On Sunday I found out what happened to it. The Amy Corps of Engineers, according to my source, offered to put in an improved ramp, a ramp similar to that at Laird's Landing. However, when they began digging, they discovered that this area of Bicentennial Park was once Rensselaer's dump. They struck garbage. There must have been some rule that they could not continue construction, so they covered up what they had done, and left the site with no ramp at all.

That sign was my Eagle Scout Project. Nice to see that it is still around. At that time I was given the text that needed to be on the sign and we gathered materials, routed the lettering, painted, mounted and landscaped the sign.
