Going to chuch the Kniman Methodist way

(I thought it would be interesting to use Sundays to focus on Rensselaer's churches and to see how many Sundays I can go before I run out of material. Indiana is richly endowed with religious denominations, with influences from North and South, East and West. This is part of that series of posts.)

Kniman United Methodist Church is located on the west edge of Kniman, a tiny town just east of the intersection of SR 110 and US 231. Kniman is about 14 miles north of Rensselaer. According to the "Church Services Directory" in the Rensselaer Republican, the pastor is Alvin Smith. Morning service and Sunday school are at 10:00 a.m.

 

As the name implies, it is part of the United Methodists. Other United Methodist churches around Rensselaer include Trinity United Methodist church in Rensselaer, the Mount Ayr United Methodist Church, Brushwood United Methodist Church, and Remington United Methodist Church. According to the Jasper County Interim Report, the building is in the center steeple/late Gothic revival style and was built about 1890. It looks rather similar to the Independence Methodist Church, which was built in 1873. The Mount Ayr United Methodist Church (built around 1910) is also quite similar.

Though it is a simple structure, the church has stained-glass windows.
