New signs of change
On a routine trip to National City Bank I noticed this sign in the window:
National City was bought out by PNC bank about a year ago. PNC is an awful name (but not as bad as Fifth Third) that came from the merger of Pittsburgh National Corporation and Provident National Corporation in 1982.
When I came to Rensselaer, this institution was State Bank of Rensselaer. It has had a bunch of names since, so it not a big surprise that it is changing its name once again.
And speaking of name changes, I noticed a sign for CenturyLink had appeared on the telephone building. Last summer EMBARQ (which was once the local telephone division of Sprint) and CenturyTel merged, and a new name emerged from the transaction.
