Goodbyes (Updated)
I was surprised to see that the Arby's in the Walmart/Strack mall has closed. The signs have been removed and put into a dumpster. (Update2: Several comments say that this is a remodel. However the radio station suggests that it may never re-open.)
The signs in the window and on the one remaining sign inform people that they can still get Arby's food at the I-65/SR 114 interchange.
In other surprising news, Bill Hogan has resigned his position as the Vice President for Advancement at Saint Joseph's College. It is kind of interesting that the announcement is on Facebook but not on the College's website, which seems to have become completely static with virtually no information on it. (Update: The Rensselaer Republican reports a second SJC official, the person in charge of their computer systems, will leave on November 1.)
East of town the bridge over the Iroquois River will be resurfaced. It has been milled and will be milled again before concrete is applied. The approaches to the bridge will be rebuilt, so at some time there will be a trench across the road.
I was surprised to learn that there will be a detention pond for the new ball fields and that it will be next to the shelter. It will be planted in grass and will only briefly contain water after heavy rains.
New sidewalks and curbs are being installed at various places in the City. The one below on Lincoln Avenue was poured this week.
The other day I passed by ConAgra and was impressed by the huge number of trucks there.
CDC Resources has undergone some changes. The Monticello center no longer has a workshop and as a result, the shredding operation has been moved to the Rensselaer Center. Below is the shredder.
When about ten bails, each weighing 1100 pounds, accumulate, a recycling company comes and picks them up.
CDC Resources has the lowest costs for shredding in the area so if you need shredding services, contact them and see what they can do for you.
Finally, Cameron Moberg has put up a picture of the bird he did for Remington. See it here.
